Joint Occupational Health & Safety
Committee (JOHSC) course

What if… your safety meetings were spaces for true collaboration and not us vs them?

What if… action items were completed and your committee was moving forward?

What if… your safety committee was proactively preventing incidents instead of reactively trying to fix what’s broken?

What if… people actually wanted to be part of your committee?

What if… Safety Makes Sense™?

As a business owner and/or supervisor, you know how important health & safety committee meetings are. They’re not just legislated. They are the foundation of your company’s success – increasing production, promoting collaboration, building morale, and keeping people safe.

So, why do these meetings have to be such a drag? No one actually wants to attend them because they become gripe and complaint sessions.

Worst of all, it feels like you have the exact same meeting month after month. No matter how often or how long you meet, nothing seems to change.

You can take an OHS course anywhere. So, why should you choose ours?

Because it’s awesome! (Keep reading…)

What makes our program awesome?

We teach your team members how to run meetings that are engaging and effective.

They’ll come away with practical tips and tools that will transform their meetings. Instead of the “same old, same old” complaint sessions, your health & safety committee will have meaningful conversations that foster collaboration and promote creativity.

Your team may groan at the thought of an 8-hour training session, but we guarantee that they’ll have fun and learn new skills that they can use immediately at their next meeting.

Our training is high energy and interactive to keep students engaged, and we use a variety of learning styles to relate to and reach each student.

Our program is designed for health & safety committee members, supervisors, HR managers, and safety coordinators. It meets all the requirements for WorkSafeBC’s mandatory legislation (Reg 3.27) and the entitlement training outlined in the Workers Compensation Act Pt. 2 Div 5(41).

After completing this awesome training, your staff will be thrilled to:

  • Explain the purposes of the Workers Compensation Act, Regulation 3.27 for joint committee mandatory training, and OHS Guidelines
  • Summarize the duties and functions of the joint committee
  • Be prepared to complete a formal accident investigation
  • Complete their monthly inspection
  • Understand the steps of the work refusal process
  • Identify educational requirements for joint committee members
  • Conduct an annual evaluation in accordance with the Regulation
  • Explain the prohibition against discriminatory action
  • Identify when an employer is required to consult with the joint committee
  • Differentiate between the roles of the committee co-chairs and joint committee members
  • Understand the purposes and what needs to be included in the committee’s Terms of Reference (or Rules of Procedure)
  • Apply the policies and procedures outlined in the committee’s Terms of Reference
  • Run an effective committee meeting

If you’re ready to have safety make sense for your company, choose the best fit program delivery for your team:

How is our program delivered?

In years past, there was only one way you could take the course: in-person, sitting in your boardroom. Thanks to virtual meeting technology, we now have more options.

Virtual live on Zoom

The best (in our humble opinion).
This option is more convenient, more engaging, and more interactive than a typical safety course. It’s easier for you to schedule attendees from different branches throughout your region. We leverage multiple technologies to ensure everyone is involved – even entertained.

Self-paced online

The most cost-effective solution for smaller teams.
This option covers all the same material, just in a pre-recorded online format. Each module ends with a summary quiz to ensure participants’ proof of understanding. Your staff has 30 days to finish the course and the mandatory exercises within the student manual.

In-person

The classic.
We come to you. Our instructor(s) will travel to your workplace and set up shop in your boardroom/training room. Please note that travel fees apply for trainings delivered outside of BC’s Lower Mainland.

Not sure which option will deliver the best results for your team? That’s okay! Reach out to us. We’d love to discuss the possibilities and help you prepare your team for success.

Conference sessions

Our signature JOHSC program can be delivered for conferences in fun, bite-sized presentations.

  1. 1
Rejuvenate your joint & safety committee meetings
